Mark Chesnut Bio

Mark Chesnut is a New York City-based journalist, editor and public speaker with more than 20 years of experience. His memoir, “Prepare for Departure: A Travel Writer’s Notes on Life, Death and Frequent Flyer Miles” will be published in summer 2022 by Vine Leaves Press. The 2019 winner of the NLGJA Excellence in Travel Writing Award, Mark has written for Fodor’s, Forbes Travel Guide, Huff Post, the Miami Herald, Orbitz, Travel + Leisure Mexico, the New York Times bestseller “1,000 Places To See Before You Die” and the inflight magazines of Aeromexico, American Airlines and Avianca. He covers Latin America in his travel blog, LatinFlyer.com, and regularly contributes to travel trade publications including TravelAge West, Travel Weekly, Meetings & Conventions and Successful Meetings.

My writing also regularly appears in Travel Weekly, Successful Meetings and Meetings & Conventions Magazine. 

Public Speaking
I've spoken at and moderated panels at events including the New York Travel Festival, New York Times Travel Show, South American Hotel & Tourism Investment Conference (SAHIC) and ASTA Global, and I host webinars for a variety of clients.

Custom Content & Consulting
I write and manage custom and branded content for a wide variety of clients, including the Costa Rica Tourism Board,  Mexico Tourism Board, Turismo Chile, the U.S. Travel Association (where I write for the IPW Daily, the official publication and site of the USA's largest international tourism conference), the World Travel & Tourism Council and hotel brands including Hilton and IHG. I also consult with travel suppliers to develop new products, including a major tour operator brand to develop new product in Panama and Colombia.
